This Independence Day, the national flag at Delhi Public School, Chhindwara was hoisted by a machine — designed, wired and tested by our own students in the school's Atal Tinkering Lab.
The Automated Flag Hoisting System was the public face of a deeper programme. Through the year, students of Classes V to IX worked through a Robotics Project Building Workshop — motors, sensors, circuits, trial, error, and trial again — ending in a robotics exhibition where they demonstrated their builds to parents and teachers. The Young Innovators Club now keeps that energy running between events.
The ATL, established under the Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog, is among the few in Chhindwara district. It exists for one reason: the distance between learning science and doing science should be a walk down the corridor, not a move to a bigger city. A student who has debugged her own robot at thirteen sits differently in a physics class at sixteen — and, as our alumni at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Guwahati show, in an engineering college at eighteen.
Parents are welcome to watch a robotics session on a campus tour. Call 9575440123 — and ask our students, not us, how the flag machine works. They explain it better.
